Internal Family Systems

IFS is an evidence-based practice that helps you learn how to engage your inner world in a deep and meaningful way.  It teaches you to listen to and care for various "parts" of your personality.  The more you do this work, the more you experience things like Calm, Compassion, Confidence, and Creativity.

In IFS, no part of you is "bad."  Some things like depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts of self-harm, addictive tendencies, etc. may certainly be causing you problems.  But they are there for a reason.  They have a role to play.  The key is to understand why these things keep showing up, so that you can learn to help your inner world establish a new way of being.  Learning to listen and care for these various parts of ourselves is what brings the healing.

Will IFS work for me?

Everyone can benefit from Internal Family Systems work.  No matter your presenting concerns, IFS offers a gentle and effective path to digging deeper into your story.

Is it difficult to figure out?

IFS is easy to learn.  It is essentially a creative meditation practice. Once you learn the basics, you can continue your inner work outside of therapy - not needing to be dependent on your therapist.

How many sessions will it take?

It really depends on what you're working through and how complex your inner world has become.  Some experience relief quickly, but for others it takes some time.
