Keep It Simple

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

There is a quote I have been pondering:

"Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated." - Confucius

This resonates with me. I used to get really worked-up over little things, when there were clearly only a few options for moving forward anyway. I would waste time and energy on throwing an internal (or external) tantrum. But I’ve been trying to get better. For example, I bought a new car this year, and like two days after bringing it home I got a nail in a tire and had to take it into the shop. Old Tom would have thrown a fit and spiraled into a negative story about how I’m cursed to not have nice things – as if the Universe delighted in playing cruel pranks on me.

Not this time. I felt annoyed, sure. But I took a breath and asked myself - What needs to be done? And then I did it. No complaining. Just action. Keeping it simple was a much more peaceful way of handling the situation. The tire needed to be fixed no matter what, so why waste the energy on making it complicated?

So, here’s the tip: Keep it simple today. If something doesn't go your way, don't throw a fit, just deal with the problem and keep moving forward. You can do it!

Happy to be in your corner,
