Raise Your Floor, Not Your Ceiling

If you wish to be better at anything it takes work. Most of us set big goals for ourselves, then get discouraged when we don’t meet them. That is called raising your ceiling - setting lofty goals that are out on the horizon somewhere. What really gets results is raising your floor. Your floor is your default, daily output. It is pretty obvious that if you half-ass your way through a project, you will get half-assed results. However, if you improve your daily output, little by little, then your results will improve as well.

So what is your current floor? What is the average daily effort that you give to your personal and professional life? What would it look like if you raised your floor just a bit?

What if you got up a mere 10 minutes earlier to take a few deep breaths and move your body before the kids got up? What if you spent 5 minutes a night prepping for your next day to make your morning go more smoothly? What if you spent 2 minutes a day texting a friend a reminder that you love them?

However you want to raise your floor, start small and stick with it. Once that becomes a routine, then see what else you might want to improve. This way of doing life guarantees better results over time.

Happy to be in your corner,

Tom
